Late night the night before trying to finish the PA report so that my birthday could be enjoyed in peace. The first surprise started with the (1)provisional plate being taken out and I drove around only to realise it once my dad mentioned it. Ballet after that and all the girlies even remembered it was my birthday.. and we didn't have pointe work. My toes got to rest! Late lunch after that with the family at Swensen's at PS. The waitress asked my brother if we made a reservation for 6 and he agreed. I asked why and he said he needed space, yeah right. I was getting suspicious cos my brother sat opposite me, my mum and dad next to him. The two seats next to me were empty and my brother said he needed space? So we've ordered and waiting for our food when lo and behold- (2)Nat and Gen walk by! Nat carrying a huge red heart-shaped balloon with smaller heartshaped balloons and Gen with flowers! It like my favourite combination and they nailed it! So after I try to recover from my shock/surprise/minor cardiac arrest/heartattack/slight coronary/stroke, we eat and then Gen makes and exit only to walk back with (3)Michael.
I get free ice-cream (not Old Vanilla though) and then comes the (4)CAKE! Ice cream, that is. After the family and friends started singing the birthday song, (5)the rest of the restaurant joined in! Hahahah! I got up to thank the lot for singing, and someone replies with a "you're welcome". Hah! There ARE courteous Singaporeans, ot maybe he was a foreigner! Gen, Nat, Michael and myself talk while the family goes off to get stuff and since the PA report was due the next day, the girlies had to head home. I was really touched that they decided to surprise me, even with all the work they had to do. On hindsight, it was the PA report that kept me occupied in thought that allowed those 2 chicas to surprise me so successfully. Just like my 18th, I walked around with balloons- except this time, it was with flowers and it was inside a shopping mall and noton the streets of town. (:
My cards this year were pink and purple. Michael's purple heart-shaped imprint on a pink sheep's hind now rests among my other past birthday presents (Jay Potter- the dog dressed in wizards robes and hat that the usual gang from year 1 got for my 18th and the pink pillow with a bear carrying a heart from Cherie and Chui Mei for my 18th too). His present is the epitome of my 20th- Pink and Purple.
