Came across an old picture and loads of old memories came to mind.
I miss my SGS days.
Sec One:
Young and impressionable as I was, I hadn't a clue that testosterone levels were rampant among the male population. I still remember standing shocked outside the bookshop when this guy came up to tell me his friend liked me. There was also the crush that I thought I'd never get over- but I did and we're friends till today. Since my maternal bloodlines were so closely connected with the school (my mom, aunts and numerous cousins are alma mater) I had to strive even harder to make a name for myself on my own. I still remember the struggle. Skirt length also went from a decent 'at-the-knee' to almost 3 fingers above. LOL.
Sec Two:
Was made level captain for Topaz. Still remember going with Ms Tan to meet the then- Topaz head. Sec 2 was freedom year. Life at SGS had pretty much become routine and I had slipped into the usual track and field, girl guides thing and was enjoying it. Won couple of medals during sports day and cross country. The delight on my parents face.... oh and Andy the math guy's face too. I miss him now, more than ever. Till today, I'll never forget the exasperation I put him through and the unwavering support he provided. And who can forget dear ol' Mr Ho. The thought makes me chuckle.
Sec Three:
The BEST year. The first proper boyfriends. I was a riot back then. Mdm Loh, the darling teacher that I ended up slighty disappointing. Mdm Loh ended up being like a second mother- she even knew my secrets! There was the leadership camp, GG camp at Chinese Gardens, Trips to KL, Malacca, Perak, Ipoh more than twice in 3ish months, winning medals and trophies at Sports Meets, getting the covetted 'Outstanding Contribution to CCA' award and topping the standard for English again. DEBATE!! My love. The exhileration, the suspense, the victory. Now I really miss Mr Paul.
Graduating year:
Hmmm. Darling Ms Sim and he creative ways for English, he love to reward her class and the tight vice-like grip (physically) she had on me to get "An 'A1' aahhh Jayasri...not 'A2'." I got her that A1. At least I made her proud. I still hate the frog for telling me so crudely that she was still disappointed with my math grade. Maybe if she's paid the weaker ones in the class more attention instead of fretting over her pursed lips. Housecaptain of Paramount. The best of my sporting achievements. Mr Oei saying "really really want you to be the housecaptain.. Mr Yap also wants you too." Student Leader and housecaptainship are the 2 defining moments in my SGS life. I truely miss the teachers (Mr Yap, Ms Sim, Mr Paul, Mdm Loh, Ms Chinniah and Mdm Ong). I'd be lost without them in SGS.
I LOVE SGS, now more than ever.
